Village Free Press was founded in 2013 by Michael Romain as a completely local, independent portal of information, news, reporting, analysis and story-gathering for Proviso Township.
In May 2022 Village Free Press joined the Growing Community Media family of nonprofit local news publications. Michael Romain continues to serve as Editor of Village Free Press and as the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Growing Community Media.
