The Triton College men’s basketball team fell 83-74 to Moberly Area Community College in the Midwest District championship game in Moberly, Missouri on Saturday. But the loss wasn’t enough to keep the Trojans from appearing in another national tournament.

The 10th-ranked Trojans (27-5) secured one of eight at-large bids to the NJCAA Division I Championship in Hutchinson, Kan.

The Trojans earned the 11th seed and will face 22nd seeded Caldwell Tech from Hudson, North Carolina at noon on Tuesday, March 15.

“I am thrilled for our players, program and Triton College for earning a bid to the national tournament,” said John Clancy, the Trojans’ first-year head coach.

“None of this would be possible without (former head coach) Steve Christiansen and the years he put in to make the Triton program what it has become. I promised him I would do everything I can to get the program to ‘Hutch’ and to get there in year one is a true blessing.”

Triton moved up to NJCAA Division I after winning the Division II national title in 2018.
