Maywood Police announced on Thursday that they’ve secured murder charges for a suspect in connection to a homicide that took place in September 2020.
Police said that the Maywood Investigations Unit “secured charges of First-Degree Murder and two additional charges of Attempted Murder for Kanye Hampton, age 18, of Chicago,” according to a press release.

Hampton is charged with the murder of Alejandra Cortes, 22, of Melrose Park. Cortes was gunned down on Sept. 4, 2020, while sitting in her vehicle with two other people on the 1900 block of West St. Charles Rd. in Maywood. Investigators said they do not believe that Cortes was the intended target. The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
