Maywood Police Charge Suspect In Memorial Day Homicide

The Maywood Police Department announced June 16 that it has charged a Chicago man in connection with a homicide that happened May 30 in the village. 

At approximately 8 p.m., Maywood Police responded to a call of a gunshot victim on the 2000 block of South 13th Avenue in Maywood, police said. 

They found Lionel Armstrong, a 28-year-old Bellwood man, lying in a car with several gunshot wounds to his head and body, police said. Armstrong was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead.

Maywood Police said that detectives investigated the case with the Chicago Police Gang Investigations Unit. They’ve arrested and charged 39-year-old Chicago resident Charles E. Lard with first degree murder. 

Lard appeared in bond court on June 17.
