Maywood Police Chief Valdimir Talley has resigned after eight years at the helm, according to a statement released by village officials on July 16.

In its statement, the village did not explain why Talley resigned.

“The Village of Maywood would like to thank Chief Talley for his leadership and commitment to public safety for the citizens of our community,” wrote Maywood Village Manger Chasity Wells-Armstrong in the village’s statement. “We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Talley would have been eligible for a pension on Dec. 31, sources said.

Deputy Chief Elijah Willis has been named as acting police chief until a permanent successor is appointed.

The village did not address when the process for searching for Talley’s successor will take place.
