Friday, July 2, 2021 || By Michael Romain || @maywoodnews

A semi-truck backed into Richards Graphic Communications Inc., 2700 Van Buren St. in Bellwood, on July 2, resulting in the collapse of a portion of a building wall. Witnesses said no injuries were reported. The accident happened sometime after around 10 a.m.

“I was at my desk and all of a sudden I heard a big bang,” said Jon Richards, whose family owns the business. “It felt like an earthquake. I literally thought that’s what had happened. My back was to the wall and so I couldn’t really see anything.”

Richards said there were about 10 people inside of the building at the time of the crash. All of them made it out safely. He said the truck was backing up when the accident happened.

“He wasn’t making a delivery to us,” Richards said. “He was backing up and all of a sudden, the walls started crashing in.”

Richards is a fourth-generation, family-owned printing company. Jon Richards said the company’s operations will “absolutely” be affected by the crash, but the magnitude and specific nature of the accident on the business is currently unknown.
