Goodwill Industries recently opened its 71st store on the site of the old Maywood Park horse racing property at 200 W. North Ave. in Melrose Park.

Melrose Park officials announced the new store opening via a July 24 post on the village’s Facebook page.

The opening comes as Goodwill seeks to expand its retail division, the organization’s primary revenue generator, according to a report in the Milwaukee Business Journal on June 22.

In 2018 and 2019, the organization brought in $175.25 million and $167.6 million in revenue, respectively, according to the report. The organization hasn’t yet released its 2020 financials.

Skip Dexter, the chief retail officer for Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin, told Business Journal that the organization has plans for expansion.

“There is growth across the board but also growth for our employees and for our communities and the resources that we provide to them. Growth can be different, but that will be a good thing,” Dexter said.

In a statement on its website, Goodwill said it’s “happy to be a part of the Melrose Park community and we look forward to meeting our neighbors.

“Come and experience our bright new store. You’ll find wide aisles, modern fixtures, new colors, and finishes — all designed with you in mind. Plus, enjoy a safe, contemporary shopping experience with a great selection of items, all donated from the local communities Goodwill serves.”

The store is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Melrose Park location is the third in the Proviso Township area. There are also locations nearby in Westchester and North Riverside.
