Cook County Clerk, Rotary To Host Black History Month Lunch & Learn Series

Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough and the Maywood-Proviso Rotary Club will host a Black History Month Lunch & Learn, a virtual speaker series that will feature distinguished African American leaders.

  • Feb. 4: Dr. Lance Williams | Assistant director for the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies at Northeastern Illinois will discuss Black History Month’s founder, Dr. Carter G. Woodson and the purpose of the annual celebration.
  • Feb. 11: State Sen. Kimberly Lightford | Illinois Senate Majority Leader Lightford will discuss the 2021 groundbreaking legislation awaiting the governor’s signature.  The Illinois Black Caucus’ Four Pillars of Policy addresses criminal justice reform, police accountability, education, economic access and healthcare.
  • Feb. 18: Alexandria Sims | Political consultant and president of APS Public Affairs. Sims is a co-founder of The Black Bench, a Chicago-based training program for future Black leaders. Sims will discuss developing Black leadership for the 21st Century.
  • Feb. 25: Professor Stanford Lewis | Lewis, a retired professor at Rutgers University and LeMoyne Owen College, will share and discuss the life and times, along with poetic pieces, about Maywood’s favorite son, Fred Hampton, and civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis.

All Clerk’s Office attendees will receive one gift certificate for a free lunch. Limit one per employee.
