Free Live Music Striking Up Across Proviso This Summer

As summer heats up, free outdoor music festivals and performances are being held across Proviso Township. 

Maywood 

The Maywood Park District and the village have started up their annual Wine Down Wednesdays featuring small shots, wine and charcuterie trays. 

The next one will take place Wednesday, June 29, 5:30 p.m., in the open space next to ReUse Depot, 50 W. Madison St. in Maywood. Music by Win Noll and the Rocking Souls. 

The Wine Down Wednesdays will then take place every other Wednesday through the end of August: July 13, July 27, Aug. 10 and Aug. 24. All of the events will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the area next to ReUse Depot. 

At this year’s Maywood Fest, which will happen Sept. 9 through Sept. 11, at the park on 5th Avenue and Oak Streets, musical acts will include blues musician Michael Charles, R&B artist Miki Howard, former Shalamar lead singer Howard Hewett, blues and R&B act KTB Band and more. Berkeley 

Berkeley’s annual Electric Nights Music Series will start Thursday, June 30, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Gazebo in Berkeley Park, 1200 Lind Ave. in Berkeley. Musician Charles Pansino will kickoff the series. 

The music series, which features different genres each night, will also take place on Thursday, July 14, and Thursday, July 21, and Thursday, July 28. 

Northlake 

The city of Northlake launched its annual Summer Concert Series on June 22, with performances by Latin band Grupo Love Secreto. 

The next performances will take place July 20, 7 p.m., at the Grant Park Field House, 44 W. Golfview Drive in Northlake, on the west side of the baseball field, where there will be live music by the Mackenzie O’Brien Band and a screening of the movie “City Slickers.” Free popcorn while supplies last. Performances on Aug. 17 and Sept. 21 will be at the Gazebo at Grant Park, 44 W. Golfview Drive in Northlake. 

On Aug. 17, iPOP, a Chicago area party cover band, will perform popular hits form the 1960s until today and on Sept. 21, Whiskeyfist, a country and southern rock band, will perform songs from Blake Shelton, Willie Nelson, Alabama and other acts. No dogs allowed. 

Hillside 

The village of Hillside’s annual Summer Nights in Hillside music series will start Tuesday, July 19, 7:30 p.m., at Hillside Commons, 4950 Washington St. in Hillside, with a performance by the Magic of Motown band. 

The band Infinity will play Tuesday, July 26, the 1970s disco tribute band the Shagadelics will play Tuesday, Aug. 2, the rock band 7th Heaven will play Tuesday, Aug. 9 and Sail On, a Beach Boys Tribute band, will play Tuesday, Aug. 16. 

Each Tuesday will also feature Cruise Nights and the Market Place at 5 p.m. Food and beer is also served at 5 p.m. 

Bellwood

The Annual Taste of Bellwood will feature the R&B/Soul act Ultimate Concept Band as the musical headliners. The annual event, which will happen Aug. 12 through Aug. 14, is free to enter. For more information on the Taste of Bellwood, visit: vil.bellwood.il.us/taste-of-bellwood/.  

Melrose Park 

The 40th Annual Taste of Melrose Park, Sept. 2 through Sept. 4 at various locations in the village, will feature plenty of free live entertainment, including One Night Band, 7th Heaven, Jersey Girls, Classic Rock Experience, Tony Ocean Show, The Rat Pack, Tony Caponi, De Ja Vu Band and more.
