Hundreds of people gathered at the Maywood Park District, 921 S. 9th Ave. in Maywood, on March 27, in order to receive COVID-19 vaccines.

Maywood Park District Executive Director Lonette Hall said 440 residents got vaccinated that day.

“I’ve had Covid and after hearing about today’s event, I don’t want to go through COVID again,” she said. “It took me four months to recover. I had the cough and was hospitalized for 10 days and in my home for three months. It affected my heart and brought up asthma, so I was on oxygen for two months,” Wheeler-Rice said.

Volunteers helped residents seeking the vaccine shots get situated. Seating at the event on Saturday was spaced apart, per local, state and federal COVID-19 guidelines.
