Maywood Nonprofit Launches Petition Drive To Get Westlake Reopened

Sunday, March 22, 2020 || By Michael Romain || @maywoodnews

A local nonprofit based in Maywood has launched a petition drive in order to pressure state officials to open three closed hospitals during the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership launched the petition drive a day after state Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch (7th) and representatives with the Illinois Health and Hospital Association urged Gov. JB Pritzker to West Lake Hospital, 1225 W. Lake St. in Melrose Park, along with Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island and Vibra Hospital in Springfield. All three hospitals closed within the last two years.

“We as faith leaders, parents, students and Illinois residents from the Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership (CSPL), a coalition of twenty parishes, community organizations and universities, join the urgent call issued by Representative Chris Welch, the Illinois Health and Hospital Association and others in urging you to move swiftly to reopen Westlake Hospital, Metro South Medical Center and Vibra Hospital,” the petition states.
