On Aug. 20, police departments across Proviso Township participated in the annual Coffee for Champions fundraising event (formerly known as Cop on a Rooftop).

The event raises money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is an initiative designed to support Special Olympics Illinois.

Police officers from all over Proviso, including Maywood, Broadview and Westchester, converged on Dunkin locations around the area to raise awareness and solicit donations. They were at the locations from morning to afternoon, with specific hours varying by department.

Westchester Police were at the Dunkin locations at 1005 S Mannheim Rd. and 11204 31st St.

“Each guest who arrived between 5 a.m. and 12 noon and donated to the Torch Run received a FREE donut,” Westchester police wrote on their Facebook page.

“For every $10 donation received, donors received a Torch Run/Dunkin’ coffee mug. This year we raised roughly $3,277.80,” they wrote.

Broadview Police announced on their Facebook page that they raised $2,200 on Friday from donations while stationed at the Dunkin located at 1940 Roosevelt Rd. in Broadview.
