The suburbs of Hillside and Westchester are planning for two of the biggest Veterans Day events in Proviso Township that bookend the national holiday, which falls on Nov. 11.
On Saturday, Nov. 6, 1 p.m., the village of Hillside and the Broadview/Hillside American Legion Post #626 will host the 19th Annual Veterans Day Parade. The parade’s grand marshal is U.S. Marine Vietnam Veteran Lawrence (Larry) W. Zuley.
The parade will start at 1 p.m., from the St. Domitilla Church parking lot, 4940 Washington St. in Hillside, and proceed south on Hillside Avenue to Butterfield Road, east on Butterfield to Wolf Road, north on Wolf Road to Washington Street, and west on Washington Street past the Hillside Veteran Memorial.

Meanwhile, the Westchester Park District is planning the Veterans 5K Run, which will take place on Sunday, Nov. 14, 8 a.m. The run will begin and end at Mayfair Park, 10835 Wakefield St. in Westchester.
Advanced registration for the 5K run will be $35. Same-day registration will begin at 7 a.m. the morning of the race and will cost $40, with an option to purchase a t-shirt, if available.
