Newest Triton Board Member Appointed, Sworn In

Friday, September 18, 2020 || By Michael Romain || @maywoodnews

The newest member of the Triton College Board of Trustees was sworn in during a special session on Sept. 17, the college announced in a statement released Sept. 18.

Lisa Bickel, an elementary school teacher in Maywood-Melrose Park-Broadview School District 89, was appointed to the role after former longtime board member Donna Peluso resigned in August.

Peluso had served nearly 28 years on the board before she resigned for what a college spokesperson said was for personal reasons. In the college’s Sept. 18 statement, officials said that Peluso retired.

In August, the college opened applications for any candidates interested in being appointed to the board as Peluso’s temporary successor. Triton officials did not disclose how many candidates applied for the appointment.

Peluso could not be immediately reached for comment on Friday afternoon. A spokesperson for the college said that they’ll make someone available to offer more details about the selection process.

Bickel will serve in her appointed role on the board until Peluso’s permanent successor is selected at the next regular election for Triton board members on April 2021.

According to Triton’s statement, Bickel, who has lived in the Triton District all her life, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa. She has a master’s in teaching from Concordia University Chicago in River Forest and an English as a Second Language endorsement from Dominican University in River Forest. She lives in Elmwood Park with her husband and two children.
