A scholarship designed to raise funds to provide financial aid to college-enrolled students of color seeking a teaching degree will reprise its annual banquet for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The District 89 Education Foundation will host its 3rd Annual “Tomorrow Needs Today” Scholarship Banquet on Friday, Nov. 11, 6 p.m., at Irving Middle School, 805 S. 17th Ave. in Maywood.

“Due to the pandemic, we have not held our banquet since 2019, but we are back,” Lorenzo Webber, the Education Foundation’s chairman, explained in a statement posted to the Foundation’s website.

Illinois Senate Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford will be the banquet’s keynote speaker. Tickets are $40 a person and $300 for a table of eight. There are varying sponsorship levels.
