Maywood Announces New Police Chief

The village of Maywood has selected a new police chief to succeed former chief Valdimir Talley. Village officials released a statement Oct. 1 announcing the appointment of Interim Chief Elijah Willis as the new Maywood Police Chief.

In the statement, village officials said Willis’ official appointment will take place on Oct. 5 inside of Village Council Chambers, 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood. Willis replaces former chief Talley, who announced his resignation in July.

Willis has been with the Maywood Police Department since 2001, and he has been a member of the command staff since 2009. He was appointed deputy chief in 2014 after serving as commander since 2009. to Willis holds a bachelor’s degree from Lewis University and a master’s degree from Governor’s State University.

“Chief Willis has been a dedicated team member with the Village of Maywood for nearly two decades. He has proven to be a strong and capable leader and he has our complete confidence that he will continue to excel in his new position as Police Chief,” said Maywood Mayor Nathaniel George Booker.

Maywood Village Manager Chasity Wells-Armstrong said Willis has “risen through the ranks serving as deputy chief for the last seven years. I feel confident that Chief Willis’s leadership skills and
steadfast work ethic will help the Maywood Police Department continue to thrive.”
