During a special meeting on June 17, the Westchester Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favor of an agreement between the village, StoneTurn Group LLP and Akerman LLP for forensic accounting services.
According to the company’s LinkedIn description, StoneTurn is a global advisory firm based in Boston that “assists companies, their counsel and government agencies on regulatory, risk and compliance issues, investigations and business disputes.”
Akerman, a Miami-based law firm with more than 700 attorneys and 24 offices around the country, has been leading an internal investigation since former Westchester village manager Paul Nosek abruptly resigned in April. The board has not publicly discussed the circumstances of Nosek’s resignation due to personnel privacy concerns.
During the June 17 meeting, which had been rescheduled from June 14 due to Monday’s supercell storm, Matt Welch, the village’s legal counsel, said that StoneTurn had been brought on board at the request of Sergio Acosta. Acosta is the co-chair of Akerman’s white collar crime and government investigations practice, according to the law firm’s website.
Welch said that Acosta requested that the village retain StoneTurn to assist him in the forensic audit aspect of his investigation.
