Carl Joseph Panek, longtime resident of Westchester, age 85, died on April 12, 2023. He was born on June 18, 1937.

Mr. Panek retired after many years of service as an editor with the Chicago Tribune. He was the longtime chairman for the Lifesource/Westchester Blood Drive Program, an active member of Westchester Community Church, a U.S. Army veteran, a true “newspaper” man who loved to fish and was a die-hard fan of the Chicago White Sox.

Mr. Panek was the beloved husband of Janice Panek, nee Smith; loving father of Christopher (Laima Day) Panek and Kathleen Panek; proud grandfather of Andrew Day; dear brother of Allen (Marguerite) Panek and Joseph Panek; fond uncle of Brian, David, Blythe, Dylan, Deborah, Naomi and Gregory. 

A funeral service was held on April 18 at Westchester Community Church, 1840 Westchester Blvd. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester.
