Martha Weathers (July 29, 1924 – September 26, 2014)

Screenshot 2014-10-05 at 10.51.18 AMMartha Weathers was born July 29, 1924, to Harrison and Willie Mae Lee. She was baptized at an early age at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Lena, Mississippi. She received her formal education at Scott County and Leake County Public Schools in Forest and Walnut Grove, Mississippi.

Martha met and married her husband, Vongia on March 14, 1946 and to this union three kids were born: James, Willie, and Yvonne. In 1950, the family moved to Chicago, where she was employed at Kraft Oscar Mayer for 36 years. Martha was formally known to her friends and family as “Big Maude.” She loved to bake and cook. She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Martha leaves to cherish her memory two surviving children, seven grandchildren, two special nieces, more than 30 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Please keep the Weathers family in your prayers.

Leon Conner

Leon Conner, 96, a WWII army veteran, passed away on October 5, 2014. Leon was the beloved husband of the late Odie for 72 years; loving father of Joy, Marilyn, Melody, the late Mayor of Maywood Ralph Conner, and the late Vietnam War hero Thomas Conner; dear brother of Vater Fite (who just celebrated her 100 birthday); and caring grandfather and great-grandfather of many.

Funeral services will take place at Second Baptist Church, 436 S. 14th Avenue, Maywood, on Saturday, October 18th. Family Reflection: 10 AM to 11 AM. Memorial Service: 11 Am to 12 PM.
